The Geek Bar Pulse is the best-selling vape on the market today by a wide margin. It contains 16 ml of e-liquid and offers two vaping modes – the standard mode and a new mode called Pulse Mode – selectable via a switch on the bottom of the device.
Geek Bar advertises that the Geek Bar Pulse delivers up to 15,000 puffs in the regular mode and up to 7,500 puffs in Pulse Mode. If you read what people say online about this device, though, you’ll quickly learn that your mileage can definitely vary.
So, how long does a Geek Bar Pulse last in Pulse Mode? Will it really cut the number of hits that you get out of the device in half? In this article, we’ll answer your questions – but before we can do that, you need to understand what Pulse Mode is.
What Is Pulse Mode on a Geek Bar Pulse?
Geek Bar introduced the Pulse Mode feature with the Geek Bar Pulse. They’ve also included that feature in every new device that they’ve produced since then, so you’ll definitely want to know how Pulse Mode works if you’re going to use any recent Geek Bar vape.
Here’s what you need to know. A vaping device uses a heating wire called an atomizer coil – or just a coil – to heat the e-liquid in the device and turn it to vapor. Until the Geek Bar Pulse was released, virtually every disposable vape on the market had just one coil. The Geek Bar Pulse, however, has two.
- In the standard mode, the Geek Bar Pulse uses one of the two coils when you puff on it. It switches from one coil to the other each time you puff.
- In Pulse Mode, the Geek Bar Pulse fires both coils at the same time. Pulse Mode essentially doubles the device’s flavor intensity and cloud production, and it also doubles the e-liquid consumption.
Does Pulse Mode Make a Geek Bar Pulse Last Half as Long?
As you now know, using Pulse Mode makes a Geek Bar Pulse use both of its coils simultaneously rather than just one. That doubles the device’s e-liquid usage, but will it actually make your vape last half as long? The answer to that question is both yes and no. We’ll explain.
Although a nicotine-free variant does exist, the standard version of the Geek Bar Pulse has a very high nicotine strength of 50 mg/ml, which means that it delivers nicotine just about as efficiently as a tobacco cigarette. That’s a great thing if you’re trying to make the switch from smoking to vaping, but it could mean that the experience might be just a bit too intense for long, deep puffs – especially if you’re using Pulse Mode.
So, although Pulse Mode does cause the Geek Bar Pulse to consume its e-liquid twice as quickly, you may find that you take shorter puffs in Pulse Mode due to the intensity of the experience. If using Pulse Mode cuts your average puff length in half, you won’t have to worry about the doubled e-liquid consumption and will find that your device lasts about the same amount of time.
How Long Does the Geek Bar Pulse Really Last?
You already know that the Geek Bar Pulse is advertised to last up to 15,000 puffs in the regular vaping mode and up to 7,500 puffs in Pulse Mode – but what does that really mean?
The important thing to understand about disposable vapes and their advertised puff counts is that a disposable vape lasts up to the advertised number of puffs and isn’t guaranteed to give you exactly that many hits. Also, the puff count on the package is stated with the expectation that your average puff will only last about a half second.
Are you a vaper? Try timing your puffs. You’ll probably find that they last significantly longer than a half second. If your average puff length is three seconds, the Geek Bar Pulse’s expected lifespan of 15,000 puffs will be reduced to more like 2,500 puffs. That’s still a lot, but you should expect to use the device for days or potentially weeks – not months.
Instead of thinking in terms of getting a specific number of puffs out of the Geek Bar Pulse, we suggest thinking about how much nicotine you’re consuming instead. Here’s an easy way to do it.
- A study published in 1984 concluded that the average smoker absorbs about 1 mg of nicotine in the process of smoking a cigarette.
- Another study from 2022 concluded that the bioavailability of the nicotine in e-cigarette vapor is about 68 percent.
- A Geek Bar Pulse contains 16 ml of e-liquid with a nicotine strength of 50 mg/ml. Therefore, the device contains 800 mg of nicotine in all.
- Given the lower bioavailability, you’ll need to consume about 1.5 mg of nicotine by vaping to equal one cigarette.
- By that logic, the Geek Bar Pulse equals about 533 cigarettes in all. That’s a huge number – about two and a half cartons!
How Can You Make the Geek Bar Pulse Last Longer?
As you’ve learned from this article, it’s completely fair to expect a Geek Bar Pulse to last at least several days before running out of e-liquid. In order for that to happen, though, you need to monitor how much you vape. If you’re constantly hitting your Geek Bar Pulse without ever putting the device down, there’s a good chance that you’re consuming more nicotine than you actually need. When you feel satisfied, put the device down and take a break.
Another thing to remember is that there are dozens of Geek Bar Pulse flavors in all, and not all of them are sweet. Do you find that using a sweet e-liquid flavor triggers your sweet tooth and makes you vape more often? Try a neutral flavor like mint or menthol instead. You may find that you won’t feel compelled to vape quite as often, and you could end up finding that your devices last days longer.
